The Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) assists the campus community develop and implement waste reduction and recycling programs. We strive to make a positive impact on campus through our service performance and our efforts to encourage waste reduction and recycling.

News and Notes


Important Electronic Waste Recycling Notice
As of June 25, 2008, the Environmental Stewardship Program has postponed all campus electronic waste (e-waste) recycling collections untill further notice. Campus departments have the option to dispose of e-waste through the usual disposal process. For security reasons, when disposing of CPUs or other magnetic media, ensure that all data is wiped before disposing of the equipment, especially if it is still in working condition. The IT Security Office has provided information on data removal from KU computers, which can be found on their website. Click here for more information.

Deskside Office Paper Recycling Grant from KDHE

ESP is partnering with FO Housekeeping to implement a deskside recycling pilot project in select campus buildings. This voluntary pilot project is funded by a grant from the Solid Waste Tonnage Fee Fund from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE).

Office Move or Clean-Out
KU Recycling can provide your office with recycling totes of various sizes to best suit your needs. To request containers, call KU Recycling at 864-2855.

Surplus Property Recycling
If you have items you would like to have removed from your office, please send a detailed list of the items for collection, including contact information, to FO Work Management through campus mail or fax, 864-4707, to coordinate pick up. Due to the nature of our collection schedule, please allow several days notice.

New Baling Equipment Purchased with Grant from KDHE

Thanks to a grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), the Environmental Stewardhsip Program purchased new baling equipment that will help make KU Recycling more efficient and allow for future expansion of other recycling services on campus.
