For the past several months staff members from KU Recreation Services, Design and Construction Management and Facility Operations have been working on a solution to correct the lack of hot water, in particular, for the Shower and Lockerroom areas at the Student Recreation Fitness Center. In addition, outside consultants and manufacturing representatives have reviewed the systems.
It appears that when the initial building was constructed and systems installed, a malfunction occurred with the water softner, which in turn created a malfunction in the mixing unit/converter, which is the delivery system for hot and cold water. Facility Operations staff were on site this past Tuesday (1/29) to determine if adjustments in the mixing valves could provide some water other than the temperature cold. This is only a short term fix until new equipment arrives and is installed. At present, the temperature may vary and be intermittent. An estimate time for completion of the bid process and equipment arrival is 30-45 days. This project will incur a minimum cost of $25,000.
