Research Compliance Hot Line

The University of Kansas is committed to ensuring that research is conducted responsibly. Anyone inside or outside the university community who has concerns that research is not being conducted in accordance with university policies, with external sponsor requirements, or with federal and state regulations should contact the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Research Integrity. Such research activities might include:

  • Research misconduct
  • Violation of human subjects protections
  • A breach of electronic protected health information
  • Conflict of interest or of time
  • Retaliation against whistleblowers
  • Misuse of research funds
  • Fraud, waste, or abuse of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. (For more on your rights under the Recovery Act, download a PDF poster here.)

(Compliance concerns relating to the use of animals should be directed to the University Ombuds Office, 864-7261. Concerns relating to biohazards, radiation, hazardous materials, or air quality, should be directed the Office of Environment, Health, & Safety at 864-4089.)

A caller has the option of leaving a message anonymously, if desired, on the Hot Line's voice mail system, or may opt to speak directly to a member of the Research Integrity staff if calling during regular office hours. Every report will be acted on in a confidential manner, with notification to other appropriate individuals made on a need-to-know basis. If anonymity is desired, it will be protected to the extent possible by law and by university regulations. Kansas state law prohibits retaliation against any state employee reporting such matters.
