The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, expected to begin August 18, 2008. The successful candidate is expected to have: a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Astrophysics by the start date of the appointment, and a demonstrated record for research in the observational study of galaxies and/or the extragalactic universe that will complement ongoing research efforts in astronomy and astrophysics within the department; for full position description, see: http://www2.ku.edu/~clas/employment/. Currently eight faculty are involved in some aspect of astrophysics research, including astrobiology, galactic astronomy, plasma astrophysics, cosmology, and astroparticle physics. KU has a 40% share of the ULTRA 1-meter telescope operated remotely on Mt. Laguna outside San Diego. Faculty are expected to develop strong, externally-funded research programs that involve undergraduate and graduate students. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching at all levels. Salary is competitive with those at other research universities.
