(9/07) This project will solidify
a collaborative effort of the Kansas State Department of Education
(KSDE), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), and
Kansas Inservice Training System (KITS) to address priorities of
the State Program Improvement for Special Education Grant and focus
on training priorities identified in the Kansas service system
for young children with disabilities and their families. These
agencies and state training and technical assistance program are
dedicated to stimulating reform and improving statewide and district
level systems for children birth through five, with developmental
delays and disabilities, and their families. This project will
target the Kansas service delivery system and specifically address
family service coordination in Kansas early intervention networks
through professional development, technical assistance, and knowledge
dissemination.
The goals of this proposal are to:
- Strengthen the skills of existing and new staff (Part C and
Part B Early Childhood Special Education) in the area of Family
Service Coordination through the provision of an initial training
and follow-up training events;
- Develop a network/infrastructure of professionals as a state
resource for training through the provision of a train the trainer
training event; and
- Evaluate the effectiveness of this training through participation
of KDHE and KSDE in assessing outcomes identified for the training
and the application of skills by training participants.
