(5/09) KU Volunteers Help Collect 30,202 Pounds of E-Waste in Parsons -- Hundreds of electronic items were recycled at the Parsons E-Waste Recycling Day, April 18, 2009 co-sponsored by the University of Kansas Life Span Institute (LSI) at Parsons, along with SEK Recycling (Pittsburg), K-State Research and Extension and the City of Parsons. Citizens of Labette, Neosho, Crawford, Cherokee and Wilson counties in southeast Kansas were invited to bring their unwanted televisions, computers, monitors, microwaves and other electronic devices to recycle at no charge. (1/09) Kathryn Saunders has been nominated to run as a member-at-large of the Executive Council of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). (1/09) LSI Parsons Colleages Try Out a Segway -- Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK) at the University of Kansas Life Span Institute (LSI) at Parsons invited their staff as well as colleagues and friends to Parsons, Kansas on Thursday, January 8, 2009 to try out a Segway, the innovative, two-wheeled, battery powered personal transporter. (9/08) Grant Awarded David Lindeman has received a new 3-year grant from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities under a contract from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. (Read the full announcement.)

Ryan Brackney, Rhonda Clay, and Mambu Sherman – Research Assistants with Kate and Dean’s Projects.


(7/08) Jackie Dwyer’s last day here was June 28, but she is going to continue working for AT until the end of October, but from a distance—We wish her the best as she moves to the Kansas City area.  She has been a real asset to the Assistive Technology project.


(5/08) Misty Goosen received the Award of Excellence and Peggy Miksch received the Service to the Organization Award from the Kansas Division for Early Childhood Conference in Wichita. Read the full story.


(5/08) Joan Wald Baken award, which is made to those whose accomplishments represent exemplary advocacy and educational practice in direct delivery of services to individuals with physical and health disabilities in schools, hospitals, clinics, homes, or in the community has been awarded to Muriel Saunders. New Staff

(3/07) Peggy Miksch is the new Technical Assistance Officer for the KITS Statewide Inservice & Technical Assistance System: Infant & Toddler Expansion project under the direction of Dr. David Lindeman. Peggy is stationed in Wamego. Her first day on the job was February 1, 2007.

Jeff Stein is an undergraduate research assistant working with Dean Williams.


Staff News

(1/07) Kimberly Page is the new Coordinator for the Early Child Resource Center with the Kansas Inservice Training System projects under the direction of Dr. Dave Lindeman. Her extension is 1638 in the Media Lab Building.

Christy Alligood is the new Research Assistant for the Recombinative Generalization of Within-Syllable Units in Mental Retardation under the direction of Dr. Kathryn Saunders. Her extension is 1915 in the Research Center.

(July 2006) Kate Saunders was elected President of “Division 25” Experimental Analysis of Behavior – American Psychological Association. Kate Saunders has been invited to join the core group of principal investigators in the Biobehavioral Neurosciences in Communication Disorders Core. Mabel Rice is director of this core, which is funded by NIDCD.

Dean Williams and Kate Saunders have accepted 3-year terms on the Board of Editors of The Behavior Analyst.

(5/06) Tammie Benham was invited and accepted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Tammie is currently pursuing a Library Science degree at Emporia State University and is the Coordinator of the Early Childhood Resource Center associated with the Kansas Inservice Training System (KITS).

(3/06) Vera Stroup-Rentier of the University of Kansas Life San Institute at Parsons, received the Kansas Division for Early childhood Award of Excellence. Stroup-Rentier is the technical assistance coordinator for the Kansas Inservice Training system, a program that provides training to early interventionist and early childhood special education teachers across the state. The award was presented at the annual conference of KDEC March 2 and 3 in Overland Park.

(3/06) Kansans Mobilizing for Direct Support Workforce Change (KMFC) received the Moving Mountains Award on February 14, 2006 at the Reinventing Quality Conference 2006 in San Diego, CA. The award is presented by the Research and Training Center on Community Living at the University of Minnesota in partnership with the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals to organizations and agencies that have demonstrated best practice in direct support professional (DSP) workforce development.
