The Latino Greek movement has a relatively young history. With historical ties to the late 1800’s, the Latino Greek movement exploded in the late 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s. From across the country, Latino Greek organizations were established to meet the needs of the Latino/a students on college and university campuses. This movement also led to the establishment of an umbrella organization that would assist in the promotion and unity of many of these organizations.
At the 2002 National Black Greek Leadership Conference, a large delegation of many Latino Greek organizations attended the conference than in previous years. From this experience, members of the University of Kansas community felt that it was time for a conference geared toward the Latino Greek experience needed to be established.
On December 17, 2002 , the first meeting was held at the Multicultural Resource Center on the University of Kansas campus to investigate the idea of establishing a National Latino Greek Leadership Conference. The enthusiasm was high as the committee proceeded forward with their plans. The members that have formed the Conference Council include: Juan Izaguirre, Santos Nunez, Belinda Hinojos, and Christina Daniels.
The Conference is geared toward:
