On behalf of the University of Kansas and Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) we would like to invite you to the 4th Annual “Am I My Brothers Keeper” African American Male Collegiate Leadership Conference, October 25-27, 2007 at the University of Kansas. 

The “Am I My Brothers Keeper” conference is designed to address issues facing African American males in their communities and African American male leadership on college campuses.  

The goal of this conference is to address relevant issues that face all African American students and advisors in post secondary and post baccalaureate education. In order to have change we must come together for the betterment of all members in our communities, college campuses and beyond. The “Am I My Brothers Keeper” Leadership Conference promises to offer its participants a wealth of knowledge and practical applications on issues that face African American males. The conference will offer the opportunity for African American Collegiate men and advisors to explore ways to assist each other through workshops, forums, and sharing of information. 

Enclosed you will find the registration materials. Your prompt response will assist us in the planning of this conference. Please note that there is limited space and by registering early you will also save on your registration fees.

Goal & Mission Statement

The goal of this conference will be to provide leadership to African American collegiate men on colleges and universities with leadership training and development. The conference is designed to address the many issues that face African-American men on their respective campuses. These issues include but are not limited to; career exploration and networking, retention, academic success, recruitment programs, male/female relationships, student apathy, financial management, black greek letter organization issues, and most importantly on issues of civility and responsibility. The conference is open to any African American male student at their respective campus. The conference will also focus on establishing male organizations like SAAB (Student African American Brotherhood) to carry forward this mission.

Location

The Am I My Brothers Keeper Leadership Conference is held at the University of Kansas, located in Lawrence, Kansas, which is noted for its arts scene, live music and historic downtown shopping. Lawrence is just 40 minutes from Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City International Airport.

Hotel Information

The Holiday Inn is the site hotel for the conference. A limited number of rooms have been blocked at the conference rate of $89.00 per night for a double room (tax not included). Please make room reservations directly with the hotel by September 21, 2007 to guarantee the conference rate. Lawrence is approximately 35 minutes from Kansas City International Airport. Shuttle service can be obtained through KCI Shuttle Service, Midwest Transportation Services or Kansas Transportation Services, Inc., cost and times will vary. NOTE: The conference does not offer shuttle service from the airport.

Two-way shuttle service: Includes shuttle service from the airport to Lawrence on the day of arrival and shuttle service from Lawrence to airport on the day of departure: $51
