Deb Teeter
University Director |
Deb joined the office in 1972 and has been Director of OIRP since 1975. She has developed and implemented costing studies; conducted financial and salary studies; coordinated, developed, implemented, and analyzed surveys; prepared policy and position papers; built planning models; participated in a variety of data exchanges, designed institutional and departmental data profiles; and consulted with Board of Regents staff regarding studies on state financing, faculty activities, graduate student activities, program review, mission review, among others. She also has developed and presented workshops on TQM and consults on peer selection, comparative cost studies, and TQM. (Masters in Business Administration) |
Ryan Cherland
Associate Director |
Ryan is the Associate Director of OIRP and Director of University Management Information. He has been with the Lawrence office since 1993. Previously, Ryan worked for four years in the institutional research office at the Medical Center. He developed and maintains the Departmental Executive Management Information System (DEMIS), and is continually exploring new ways of providing access to information through the Internet. He also has designed and executed computer-based analyses, such as peer selection and comparative cost studies. His principal professional areas include institutional and academic program management as well as workload analyses. (Ph.D. in Higher Education) |
Sandra Hannon
Assistant Director |
Sandra is the Assistant Director of OIRP. She first joined the office in 1989. Her responsibilities include developing and analyzing comparative metrics for KU and other AAU universities, conducting policy analyses, and coordinating analytical projects using national datasets. Sandra has worked extensively preparing data and analyses for the Office of Graduate Studies. She is active in the AAU Data Exchange and serves as the caretaker for the AAUDE Doctoral Time to Degree exchange item. (M.S.Ed. in Higher Education) |
Gwen Bohling
Research Analyst |
Gwen joined OIRP as a Research Analyst in 2001. Previously she worked for three years as a developer/analyst in KU's Computing Services division. During the 1990s, Gwen served for five years as assistant and later associate director in the Office of Student Financial Aid, where her responsibilities included system testing and document handling. She has taught writing and English as a second language. She is responsible for conducting a variety of student analyses in OIRP. (M.A. in English) |
Paul Klute
Research Analyst |
Paul joined OIRP as a Research Analyst in 2009. He previously worked for five years as the Assistant to the President at a regional, four-year public University. In that role, he was heavily involved with quality systems and process improvement. Paul is working toward a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy (concentration in Higher Education) while at the University of Kansas. He is responsible for overseeing a variety of surveys in OIRP. (Masters in Business Administration) |
Linda Mannering
Senior Principal Analyst/ |
Linda started her higher education career in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at the University of Kansas in 1983. She moved to higher education budget and finance for fifteen years at KU, Emporia State University, and the University of Nebraska system office. Most recently she directed the Office of Institutional Research for eight years at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and currently is on administrative leave while serving as Project Manager for the Professional Online Record (PRO) project at KU. Linda holds degrees from Washburn University (B.M) and the University of Kansas (M.M.E.D. and M.B.A.), and a graduate certificate in software engineering project management from the University of Nebraska. She is interested in the application of new technologies to collaborate and to do analysis. Linda is a musician and supports the arts. |
Virginia Nichols
Statistical and Information Officer |
Virginia is the Statistical and Information Officer, and has been with the office since 1974. Virginia's primary responsibility is to develop, analyze, and maintain federal surveys and major college guides, and disseminate university data and information. She coordinates the production of the University of Kansas Profiles, the Common Data Set, and she also responds to approximately fifty comprehensive surveys per year. Trina Ramirez
Research Analyst |
Trina joined OIRP in 2011 as a research analyst. Her responsibilities include the utilization of data mining techniques to develop and analyze predictive models that inform KU's recruitment and retention practices. She has 12 years of professional experience in the Division of Student Success at KU (working with first-year college students in transition) and most recently she served as a graduate research assistant at Iowa State University (ISU). Trina has extensive experience in quantitative research methods and multivariate analyses. (Ph.D. in Higher Education) |
Barbara Russell
Research Analyst |
Barbara is a Research Analyst and has been with the office since 2005. Responsibilities include conducting research and preparing summaries of reports in support of university administration as well as preparing data and student analyses. She is also involved with the development and production of reports, designs, implements, and analyzes surveys related to university academic programs and operations. (M.S.Ed. in Higher Education) |
Ron Spangler
Senior Principal Analyst |
Ron returned to OIRP in 2005 after working on-site at Haskell Indian Nations University for two years to build their institutional research capacity. He moved to the Lawrence campus in 1991 after leading the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at the KU Medical Center. Ron has expertise in the organization of data for information systems and analysis. He also coordinates analysis of faculty, staff, and salary data to meet University needs for management information and participation in external studies. (M.S. in Psychology) |
JoAnn Williams
Senior Principal Analyst |
JoAnn is a Senior Principal Analyst and has been with the office since 1987. Her expertise includes the design and execution of computer-based analyses to meet university information needs regarding degree completions, enrollment management, attendance patterns of entering freshmen, salary studies, graduate enrollment issues, and numerous ad-hoc requests for information. Brenda Gach
Senior Programmer Analyst |
Brenda joined OIRP as a Research Analyst in 2000. She has been employed at KU since 1996 starting as a student staff member in the office of Budget Management and Fiscal Affairs. In 1998, she accepted a professional position as Budget Analyst. In addition to budget experience, she brings many years of database development and fund accounting experience to OIRP. Her OIRP responsibilities include conducting salary and staff analyses and the development of UBUD, a web-based system to display and track budget information. (B.S. in Accounting) |

Ray joined the office as a Research Analyst in 2003. He previously worked as a programmer/analyst in Decision Support Services. His primary responsibilities are the administration of the Departmental Executive Management System (DEMIS), development and support of student records reporting databases, and the provision of analytical support for space management decision making. Annamarie Hill
Senior Programmer Analyst |
Annamarie began working for the University of Kansas in June of 1988 as a programmer/analyst. Over the years she has provided programming and analytical support for the KU library systems, the Student Records system, and the original implementation of KU's PeopleSoft HR/Payroll system. In her current position as a Data Analyst for University Management Information, she specializes in investigating the PeopleSoft HR/payroll and Student systems and develops extraction and reporting systems from the PeopleSoft databases. Yolanda Howard

Yolanda joined the office as a Research Analyst in 2010. She previously worked at KUCR as a PeopleSoft System Administrator and K-State as an IT Planning Coordinator. Responsibilities include working with ETL developers and data analysts to identify, design and implement solutions for extraction and integration of data to and from data warehouses and data marts for the purposes of administrative decision support and analysis and help maintain the university's administrative decision-support technical architecture.
