How to Participate

globeWe're glad you are interested in participating in GAP. Completing your certification is a self-guided process. You may be ready to certify now or you may just be beginning to accumulate the experiences and courses you'll need to receive GAP certification. Wherever you are in the process, we hope you will take advantage of the many diverse international experiences available to you as a KU student. And along the way, drop us a line if you have a question.

Below is an outline of the steps you will follow on your path GAP certification.

Step 1: Register
Fill out our online registration form. It's simple and will help you stay on track to complete your certification.
Step 2: Participate
Once you register, it's up to you to chart your course to GAP certification. Take classes with an international focus, study abroad, learn a foreign language, and take part in some of the many international activities right here on campus. You will meet the requirements for GAP certification once you complete two of the three GAP components. Don't forget that you can receive the highest level of certification (GAP certification with distinction) if you complete all three components.

If you have already completed at least two of the three GAP components, you are ready for Step 3.

Step 3: Document
Use the GAP Portfolio to document your fulfillment of the GAP components and reflect on your global experiences. Document your international experiences, coursework and co-curricular involvement. Take a look at the portfolio for specific instructions.
Step 4: Certify
You are ready to complete your certification if you have completed at least two of the GAP components and filled out a GAP Portfolio. Make sure you attach all of your necessary documents (reflection pieces, ARTS form, etc.), sign your portfolio and turn it all into the GAP Coordinator.

The KU Global Awareness Program will review your portfolio, ARTS form and other documents to verify completion of the program. If completed, you will receive a confirmation email and your name will be forwarded to the registrar's office for certification on your KU transcript.
