International Student Life Book

As a former international student at the University of Kansas, you probably remember your first days in the United States, Lawrence, and on campus. Whether you felt excitement, fear or confusion, or all of these, you have memories to go with all these emotions. Because international students are such a vital part of KU—you bring the world to us—International Programs wants to recognize your contributions to life on the Hill.

We are working on a book about international student life at KU. We want to gather first-person recollections from international students about their experiences to include in the book. We want to reach as many former students as possible from all disciplines and generations to tell this rich and untold story. According to university records, the first student “from another land” came from Japan in 1891 to study engineering. Today, nearly 1,600 students from more than 100 countries attend KU.

If you have photos or other memorabilia from your time at KU, they would be welcome. We will return them if you wish. You can also send scanned materials.

We cannot do this without your help. Please help us by filling out our questionnaire.

We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your help.
