Following is important information regarding the policies of New Student Orientation as they relate to new student and new student family programs. As a participant in an orientation program, you will be responsible for knowing this information. Orientation participants must abide by the policies stated below. These policies are established with the needs of the student in mind and are established to:
- Provide appropriate academic advising at orientation
- Provide accurate and up-to-date information on their student record
- Provide details regarding the fees associated with program attendance
- Outline expectations of student involvement at orientation.
We strongly recommend you print this page or bookmark it for future reference.
- You will be asked to preference three orientation dates that correspond to your intended major. We do our very best to accommodate your requests. If the three dates you preference are filled, we will assign you to the next open date that corresponds to your major. Be sure the dates you select will work for you before submitting your registration. New Student Orientation will not accept date change requests or any changes to your reservation until May 12, 2008.
- New Student Orientation is unable to accept faxed, phone, or emailed registrations. Day-of-program registrations are not allowed.
- If you have been admitted to two schools and one of those schools is a freshman-entry school (Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts) you will be assigned to an orientation session that corresponds to the freshman-entry school.
- If you have taken college courses or earned dual credit while in high school you must submit official transcripts from the college granting the credit to the KU Office of Admissions & Scholarships prior to your assigned orientation program. Failure to supply information on all college credits completed will delay your advising and enrollment and could result in inappropriate course selection. If there is not time to send a transcript before orientation, bring an official transcript or a grade report to assist in advising.
- You must arrive at orientation with your KU Online ID and password in order to enroll in your classes. Failure to know your KU Online ID and password will result in a delay in your enrollment.
- For students who choose to attend orientation, advising and enrollment is contingent upon attendance at all interest sessions during the program. Freshman students should plan to be at orientation from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Day 1 and 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Day 2. Transfer students should plan to be at orientation from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. You will not be advised or allowed to enroll if you do not attend all the program's sessions.
- If you (or any guest you have registered) do not plan to attend orientation, you must cancel your reservation in writing. Written cancellations must be received in our office by 5:00 p.m. CDT, one week prior to your assigned orientation program, otherwise you will be billed for your orientation fee (and fees associated with any guest(s) you register). The cancellation dates are listed on our website under Program Policies. Cancellations may be sent by letter, email, or fax to:
