Steps to Install PeopleSoft:

If any form of "ORA" or “oraxx” where xx is the version of the current Oracle installation shows up in the results, abort further installation. Previous versions of oracle need to be uninstalled before upgrading to version 10g oracle.   See Appendix A below for instructions to delete a version 8 oracle install.
  4. Version 9 can be uninstalled through add remove programs.  You will also need to manually delete any oracle folders before installing 10g.

Notice: Please alert users that they may see an installation when they use Crystal Reports for the first time. This is normal to verify the settings for each user profile.

Appendix A:

If oracle8 installed.  Existing ORACLE 8 program must be deleted before upgrading to oracle 10g

1.   Find ‘orant’ or ‘oracle’ directory on c:\

  • Highlight ‘orant’or ‘oracle’, then right-click, delete folder
  • Usually, you won’t be able to delete everything – the ‘bin’ folder (and possibly other folders) will remain.  Delete these after modifying the registry as noted below.
  1. Go to registry (start>run then type ‘regedit’)
  • Save a copy of the registry before you make any changes.  This will only be applicable if you use oracle odbc driver to connect to databases other than FSKU or HRSA.   Example below is for voyager.
  • Open the File menu and select Export.  The following screen will appear. Make sure that you choose Export Range All, name the file regbackup, then click Save to save the file.

    • Delete ‘odbc file DSN’ folder

**Note:  If you are running other applications that use ODBC drivers (Voyager, ARTS, Access databases, do not delete the entire ODBC DATA SOURCE FOLDER or the ODBC FILE DSN folder.  Delete only those entries that are associated with those databases.  “Voyager” for example.

REBOOT your system now

3.   If you weren’t able to able to delete the entire ‘orant’ directory in step 1, delete it now.
4.  Delete all c:\program files\ora* directories

6.  Edit the system path:

Edit the *system* PATH variable under Start / Settings / Control Panel / System / Advanced / Environment Variables / System Variables; remove all path references that contain oracle references. Make sure there is a semicolon between each remaining path element, but no semicolon at the end. Here is just one example.
Before:
C:\orant\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem
After:
C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem

7.   Do a search for any remaining ora* files.  Delete any remaining files found (e.g. oracle.ini, oraodbc.ini.)
