Project Workout on Wheels--
A randomized exercise trial for wheelchair users
This is a current project.
Description
Exercise and physical activity are widely recognized as having substantial health benefits for the general population and people with disabilities. This project will test the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention to promote physical activity among people with mobility impairments. Manual wheelchair users will be randomly assigned to an intensive home-based intervention or a minimal-contact control group and then will be followed after the intervention. The study will assess the effectiveness of the intervention for promoting the adoption and maintenance of physical activity, the physical and psychosocial effects of the intervention, and the complex interplay of factors that influence the effectiveness of the intervention.
