Project engage: building parents' capacity to improve child language outcomes

This is a current project.

This project will examine the benefits of adding cell phone technology to an intervention that has been shown to result in an increase in the fidelity with which parents use language promoting strategies, and in improving child language outcomes. The proposed study will examine how cellular phones can be used within a home visiting program to:

(1) improve parent participation and engagement
(2) increase the dosage of interventions
(3) enhance the effectiveness of the language promoting intervention in improving child language outcomes through an increase in the frequency with which parents implement the strategies.

The research team anticipates that enhancing the intervention with cell phones will result in an
increased dosage of the intervention as a result of greater parent engagement and use of the
strategies in the cell phone enhanced group compared to those parents who receive the language
promoting intervention without the cell phone enhancement, and that this will result in improved
language outcomes for children.
