Graduate Teaching
Assistantships
Graduate teaching assistantships
(G.T.A.’s) are available in Costume Production, Scenic Production, Lighting
Production, Makeup, and Introduction to Theatre.
The beginning salary for these G.T.A.
positions is $12,300 per year, plus full tuition, and they gain valuable teaching
experience. Many of our students have gone on to teaching positions in colleges
and universities after graduation.
Evaluation of graduate students’
qualifcations for a teaching assistantship is based on information furnished
by the student applicants. This information includes past teaching experience
and/or other related professional experience. The evaluation is made by the
Scenography faculty.
The number of teaching assistantships
varies according to departmental need. Selection is based primarily on identification
of those best qualifed to provide a quality experience for undergraduate theatre
students. A secondary consideration is to render financial assistance to those
in need and third consideration is to provide students with teaching experience.
Continuous enrollment in Scenography
classes and satisfactory progress toward the degree are essential for the renewal
of graduate teaching assistantships. Teaching assistantships may be renewed
for up to three years.
