John Gronbeck-Tedesco
has been a member of the Department of Theatre and Film faculty since 1979.
He formerly served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
at KU, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Film, and Acting Director of
the University Honors Program.
He is the author of Acting Through Exercises: Journeys for the Actor,
published in 1992, which received the “Best Book in Theatre Pedagogy
and Practice” award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
He co-founded and edits the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism
and is the author of several plays including Prairie Fire, Parts I and
II, and Coming Here, A Trilogy produced by The University Theatre
in 1996. Dean Gronbeck-Tedesco’s play Tony and the Telephone Pole
was performed at the Last Frontier Play Festival in 2003 in Valdez, Alaska.
John’s recent directing credits at KU include Temptation, Lonestar,
The Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and The Mandrake (which
he translated).
