RE: going to lab Saturday around 2:15
Hi Folks-
Not sure of who all were in the Lab on Friday when Dick Niemi came up, but
please find below a couple corrections. If you were not in on the
conversation, it might be safer to ignore this.
1) It is Andre Blais NOT Niemi who is chairing Canadian politics panel at
Midwest. It seems I see Blais, LeDuc, and Niemi as one and the same person,
and French, at that --quite baffling, isn't it?
2) I checked Niemi's 1976 piece for comments comparing sex to voting --all in
vain. It turns out that Grofman extended Niemi's example to fit his own
logic. Just to be sure, Grofman (1983, page 56 or 57) says: "Also, Niemi
(1976) has reminded us that voting, like sex, while sometimes a duty, can
sometimes be enjoyable, especially if done in the company of friens. (I am
rephrasing here, slightly.)" Moral of the story to Self: Self, never quote
without having checked the original article!
I wanted to set this info straight, because those two items were keeping me
up.
Take care,
Raminta
