Nick, a recipient of the Virgil Basgall Scholarship, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Washburn University in Topeka , KS . As an undergraduate, Nick worked hard to improve himself as a public servant and learned valuable lessons from his activities and community service. Nick participated in the Washburn Choir and sang in a barbershop quartet, Strike 4; served on the student government as a senator for two years and budget director for a year; and completed the Bonner Leader program, which required students to complete 900 hours of community service over a two-year span.

Some of Nick's community service activities included leading two groups to the Gulf Coast for relief work after Hurricane Katrina, serving as a Big Brother, working as a volunteer at a week-long summer Muscular Dystrophy Camp, and helping lead nearly 50 students down to Greensburg , KS after a tornado destroyed the town.

Nick interned part-time over winter and summer breaks in the City Manager's Office in Olathe , KS . He worked on projects with several departments, assisted in the development of the city's 3 rd grade program, and learned from issues that come up during times of high economic and population growth and times when that growth slows.

Nick is currently working as an intern in the Budget Office in Olathe . His two major responsibilities thus far have been developing the city's first ever Comparative Cities performance report and developing a detailed revenue manual for the city. Both projects will greatly benefit city staff and the governing body in making decisions from year-to-year.
