    Claire, a Wildgen Family scholar, graduated with honors from the University of Kansas , with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the Commission on the Status of Women, an orientation assistant, a coordinator for Into the Streets Week, a leader of a Thematic Learning Community, a member of Concerned Active and Aware Students, and an intern with Representative Dennis Moore. Also active in the Honors program and Scholarship Hall system at KU, Claire takes great pride in her leadership and participation in both these programs.

    Prior to joining the MPA program, Claire was a Title 1 Math Teacher and Director of the non-profit Center for Community Outreach (CCO) at KU. As Director, Claire supervised four staff members, thirty volunteer program coordinators, and oversaw a $35,000 budget. During Claire's tenure, participation in the CCO's volunteer programs increased by 10% to over 3,000 students actively engaged in volunteer work. Claire worked to increase volunteer numbers, keep coordinator turnover low, and create meaningful service opportunities available for KU students.

    Claire currently works for the City of Mission Hills, KS where she has gained practical experience preparing the 2009 Budget-In-Brief, creating a report on stormwater utility fees in the Kansas City metro area, and researching dust control ordinances used during teardown and rebuilding projects in comparable U.S. cities. Claire looks forward to learning more about local government management through her full-time internship and is interested in finding a setting where she can gain practical experience in budget-making and a wide exposure to urban issues.
