    Emily is an Ethan Allen scholar and the first Clara Perkins Schneider scholar. She graduated from the University of California at Davis in 2004 with Bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Sociology with an emphasis in law. While an undergraduate, Emily was very active in the California Center 's Capitol Focus program, which educated California youth about statewide government and budgetary issues. In her junior year, she interned in the Washington , DC office of Congressman Mike Thompson, where she drafted press releases and constituent letters, performed legislative research, and led tours of the Capitol Building . While in Washington , DC , she also completed an independent research paper on the uneven distribution of the homeless population in the United States .

    Prior to beginning the MPA program, Emily worked for the City of East Palo Alto, California for 3 ½ years as an Employee Relations Technician and Budget Analyst. She was responsible for coordinating the production of City's Operating General Fund Budgets. She also coordinated recruitments, participated in labor negotiations with various employee unions, managed benefits for all city employees, processed worker's compensation claims, and acted as a resource for employees with personnel-related questions.

    Emily is currently working as a Management Intern for Douglas County, Kansas where she has been working to expand a recycling program to all county facilities, and working with other staff on a facilities conservation improvement plan. She is also completing an analysis of county fairground facility rental rates to ensure that rental revenues cover a significant portion of the facility operating costs.
