Trisha graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors degree in Social Welfare. While at KU, she served on the All Scholarship Hall Council , volunteered as a tutor and mentor for a variety of nonprofit organizations, and worked with a social welfare student group to implement a new volunteer program in a local retirement facility.
As an undergraduate, Trisha interned for two Kansas Legislators and for the Kansas Advisory Committee on Hispanic Affairs, where she researched, analyzed, and generated monthly newsletters documenting the current legislation and policies affecting the Hispanic residents of Kansas. During her senior year, Trisha created and implemented an after-school program which encouraged Hispanic students in Topeka to participate in volunteer and community- building activities. After graduating, Trisha worked as the Director of Youth Services for Whatsoever Community Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where her interest in public administration solidified during her involvement with the Center’s neighborhood development and crime prevention task force.
Trisha is currently interning in the Budget Office in the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas. She is working on a variety of projects including the preparation of the budget document for the GFOA Budget Award, updating the capital improvements plan, and evaluating project proposals for new casino developments in Wyandotte County. Trisha will also be involved in the development of the 2009 operating budget and capital improvements plan during the Spring of 2008.
