Nolan Klouda

Nolan, a Mary Morrill-Litchfield Scholar, graduated cum laude with a BA in Honors History and Political Science from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2006. At Gustavus, Nolan wrote for the college newspaper, tutored junior high and high school students with special needs, and worked as an assistant to faculty in the history department. He also received two writing awards and completed a year-long honors thesis.

Following graduation, Nolan returned to his hometown of Anchorage, Alaska, and interned with the National Park Service as a liaison to the State Historic Preservation Office, gaining exposure to land use issues and intergovernmental relations. After leaving the Park Service, he worked for a year as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member at an adult learning center in Fairbanks, AK. There, Nolan administered a workforce development project, wrote grant proposals, spoke to community groups, created marketing materials, presided over an advisory board, and managed volunteers and a part-time employee. He also played an active role in fundraising and budgeting. While working in this capacity, Nolan decided that local government would be the ideal outlet for his broad interests in community-based public service.

As a Graduate Research Assistant for Associate Dean Barbara Romzek, Nolan works on research in contracting, social services, and public service networks. He enjoys the opportunity to read the latest public administration research and hopes to apply what he learns.
