Meghan, an Ethan Allen Scholar, graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Italian. While attending KU, she was the coordinator for the Mentors in the Lives of Kids program, a mentoring program that pairs college students with elementary school students. As part of her journalism major, Meghan worked as opinion page editor for the University Daily Kansan, editing stories, designing page layouts, and working with writers and an editorial board to publish the newspaper’s opinion page. She also interned at Lawrence Arts Center working in the grants and funding department, and at the Lawrence Journal-World working on a special section project.
Originally from Omaha, Meghan became interested in public administration with a non-profit emphasis through her work with AmeriCorps in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduation, Meghan served two years as an AmeriCorps member at Lincoln Action Program, a community action agency. After her term ended, she became the AmeriCorps coordinator at the agency, supervising a team of 30 AmeriCorps members in 17 different departments and agencies. Meghan was also a coordinator and volunteer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for three years preparing tax returns for lower income individuals and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Lincoln.
Meghan is interning in the city administrator’s office in Grandview, Missouri. Her projects include working with the capital improvement sales tax, the budget, and preparing presentations on the topics.
