Jo Ella Adelung graduated from Cornell College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in Spanish. At Cornell, Jo Ella was involved in student senate, the appropriations committee, Phi Omega social and service group, the campus newspaper, Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish honor society) and was elected vice president of the student body her senior year. Jo Ella studied Spanish literature, culture, and language in Mexico, Bolivia, and Spain while attending Cornell.

Jo Ella realized that she wanted to pursue an MPA during her senior year when she interned for City Administrator Scott Bovick in her hometown of Nebraska City, NE. She has always been drawn to public service, especially because of her mom’s service to Nebraska City as mayor for the past seven years.

Jo Ella completed one year in the MPA program at Florida Gulf Coast University where she was a research assistant and member of the External Relations Board for the Department of Public Affairs. She desired a more conventional city management program, so she was determined to transfer to KU after hearing distinguished recommendations about the program.

Jo Ella currently works for Olsson Associates in Riverside, MO. She has participated in projects such as facilitating public meetings and community visioning. Jo Ella’s favorite assignment thus far was presenting to a local third grade class about what it takes to build communities.
