Undergraduate Students
Opportunities to learn about public administration are not limited to graduate
level work. Several courses about public administration are
available
through the Department of Public Administration. The department offers an undergraduate
major in Public Administration at the Edward's
Campus in Overland Park.
Courses
The Public Administration Department regularly offers an Introduction to Public Administration course, PUAD/POLS 330 . The honors section is PUAD/POLS 331. These
courses are offered in Lawrence and at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park.
PUAD/POLS 330: Introduction to Public Administration
The goal of this
course is to acquaint students with the breadth and depth of public administration.
Governments do a wide variety of things, which vary across countries according
to the level of government, the wealth of the government, and other factors. Most
of the contact people have with government is through unelected public officials,
be they police officers, driver examiners, garbage collectors, school teachers,
or tax collectors.
Introduction to Public Administration public policy and policy makings is the
study
of
government workers, the organizations in which they work, how they are financed,
and how
government
engages
citizens to help form and maintain community. In various ways, the class sessions
will explore the three important issues of public administration: discretion,
authority, and accountability.
