PUAD 831 Requirement
Purpose: The 831 requirement is designed to provide MPA students with information about topical issues not normally covered in classes and/or to expose them to speakers not otherwise available.
Requirement: Students are required to earn 18 credits of workshops to fulfill a one credit hour PUAD requirement. It is expected that the requirement will be fulfilled over several semesters. The student may enroll for PUAD 831 early in his/her studies or towards the end, but should begin attending these workshops as soon as he/she begins the program. Students enrolled in an early semester will receive a grade of "Incomplete" until they complete the requirement. At that time, the "I" will be changed to an "S" (satisfactory). Students not wanting an "I" on their transcript should register for PUAD 831 in the semester they expect to complete their 18 hours.
PUAD 831 is graded "Satisfactory" and the student does not receive a letter grade (A, B, C).
For Topeka-based workshops, students should notify Beverly Vogel at the Public Management Center Office (785-296-2353 or bvogel@ku.edu) in advance of attending a particular workshop. Lawrence students should notify Ray Hummert (785-864-9097 or rhummert@ku.edu). For Edwards Campus workshops, students should notify Noel Rasor (913-897-8510 or noel@ku.edu). Students should sign an attendance sheet at the workshop.
The department in Lawrence maintains attendance records for PUAD 831. To check your hours, e-mail rhummert@ku.edu.
Up to twelve of the 18 hours may be fulfilled by attending workshops or meetings not sponsored by the department and computer training programs. Six credits can be obtained for attending outside seminars and program and six for computer classes sponsored by the University. Usually no more than three hours will be recognized for any one event/conference or computer class. To be given credit for non-KU sponsored events, the student must request permission from the Administrative Director prior to the event, and must submit a half page summary of learning following the workshop/conference. No written work is required for attending PUAD sponsored events.
