Class President's Message

I would like to take a moment to congratulate my classmates on making it through one of the most difficult finals week in my collegiate memory.  A paper due every eight hours, holiday parties and study groups to attend, not to mention the incessant Facebook and MySpace updates that occurred every fifteen minutes to let everyone know just how far along on that project you were (“Four sentences down, ten more pages to go!”)  It was truly a semester to remember, although I can think of a few more fitting ways to bid it adieu.  Way to go guys!

In spite of our busy class schedules though, our class did make it a priority during the holiday season to give back to the community.  It’s so easy to get caught up in the moment – what assignments are due tomorrow, what meeting to go to next – that we wanted to find a way to help us keep the proper perspective on our role as students and prospective public servants.  As a class, we selected two projects in which to participate.  We helped serve meals at the Salvation Army’s Holiday Dinner for the Homeless and we also provided new outfits, toys and a holiday meal for a family of six.  We hope to continue to seek out such opportunities in Lawrence and other communities where we intern and find ways to come together as a class and make a positive contribution.

As the spring semester quickly approaches, we will no doubt be focused on two things – KU Basketball and the search for a full-time internship.  Both will be nail biters, so any advice or good vibes you want to send our (or the team’s) way will be greatly appreciated.

Rock Chalk,
