University Theatre adjusts showtime to accommodate basketball game

LAWRENCE — This time of year, with the University of Kansas Jayhawks in the NCAA Final Four Tournament, everyone on the KU campus is a basketball fan. The University Theatre at KU knows this and is doing all it can to accommodate both basketball and theater patrons.

The Saturday evening performance of Larry Shue's comedy, "The Foreigner," has been changed from a 7:30 p.m. curtain to a 2:30 p.m. matinee in the William Inge Theatre in Murphy Hall. And if the Jayhawks win Saturday, plans are already being made for postponing Monday's performance to Thursday, April 8.

"In this time of incredible excitement over the Final Four, we in theatre realize the importance of what it means to be a Jayhawk, and we all support our amazing players as they soar to the top," said John Staniunas, chair of the Department of Theatre and interim artistic director of theatre. "Changing a few performance dates is the least we can do to help our boys make KU the number one team in the nation. I for one will be standing on the sidelines cheering them on to success."

Patrons holding tickets for Saturday evening may use them for the matinee performance or exchange them for another performance at the University Theatre Ticket Office. For more information, call 864-3982.

"Basketball at KU is the ultimate theatre event, and we send all our best wishes." Staniunas added. "Break a leg and Rock Chalk!"
