Staff invited to cybersecurity event
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Unclassified Senate is sponsoring a Cyber Security Awareness Brown Bag event to show participants how to protect confidential and personal information on computer and cell phones.
The event will be noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Kansas Union's Big 12 Room. Presenters will be Rick Whitmore, director of technology; Jane Rosenthal, KU privacy officer; Rob Dewhirst, security analyst; and Jason Carrillo, security analyst.
Topics will include:
• Problems regarding the use of cloud-based services like Gmail, Dropbox, Googledocs, etc.
• Advice about passwords and email encryption.
• Regulatory compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, PCI and the data management and security requirements that NSF, NIH, CDC, etc. are now putting into grants.
• Understanding and complying with university policies.
