Plans for Hawk Week 2012 include new Hawk Week leader position

LAWRENCE — A newly created student position will provide leadership experience for returning University of Kansas students and help welcome new students to KU during Hawk Week. Hawk Week is the official welcome week at the beginning of the fall semester.

New Student Orientation (NSO) is currently recruiting KU students for the newly created Hawk Week Leader position. This position is a weeklong paid leadership role in which students will be working alongside orientation assistants to help new students transition into their role as new Jayhawks. Hawk Week leaders will be assigned to a cohort of new students to help them navigate through Hawk Week. They will serve as mentors in both large- and small-group settings.

Applications are available online and are due by 5 p.m. March 12. Learn more about the Hawk Week Leader position here.

Megan Baker, assistant director of NSO, said the new position serves two purposes: New students establish a relationship with an upperclassman on campus to serve as a mentor, and the Hawk Week leader in return has the opportunity to develop leadership skills and give back to KU.
