Open enrollment for health insurance
Open enrollment for health insurance and flexible spending accounts is under way for University of Kansas employees and will run through Oct. 31.
For Plan Year 2012, the Health Care Commission reviewed the semi-monthly premium contribution strategy and voted to return to the 95 percent employer contribution level for employee-only coverage. Over the past few years the employer portion of the premium has been increasing at a higher rate than the employee contributions. Any premium increase will depend upon the health plan selected, the salary tier and coverage level. The employer contribution toward the cost of dependent coverage will continue to be 55 percent.
Changes for Plan Year 2012 include the purchase of Preferred Health Systems by Coventry, the offering of United HealthCare instead of UMR, a United HealthCare Company, a new preferred lab benefit through Stormont Vail HealthCare for Plans A and B, a Plan C offering by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and a new HealthQuest Rewards Program.
Who must participate in Online Open Enrollment?
1. All employees enrolled in a health plan must declare tobacco use status online during Open Enrollment; otherwise, you will be defaulted into the nondisclosure category, which has higher tobacco-user premiums.
2. If you want to participate in a Flexible Spending Account (health and/or dependent care) online enrollment is required every year.
3. HealthyKIDS – interested employees must apply online every year to participate in the HealthyKIDS program.
4. If you want to change health plans; add or drop vision coverage; add, drop or change dependent medical, dental or vision coverage; change your tobacco use status or tax status of premium payments, you must participate in online Open Enrollment.
New HealthQuest Rewards Program
The state of Kansas is changing the HealthQuest Rewards Program, which allows employees to qualify for the $40/month discount toward health insurance premiums. Actions taken during Open Enrollment for Plan Year 2012 will affect credits received for the Plan Year 2013 program.
