Homecoming parade, parking
LAWRENCE — The 100th Homecoming Week celebrations are under way, and changes to the Homecoming parade schedule will affect parking and campus traffic on Friday, Oct. 26.
Although in recent years the parade has been on Saturday morning, this year's event will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, starting in front of the Chi Omega Fountain, and proceed along Jayhawk Boulevard. It will conclude at Adams Alumni Center. Organizers hope the new time and day will be more convenient for university families and members of the community.
Parking restrictions and alternate parking options are as follows:
Parking will be restricted on all of Jayhawk Boulevard at 5:30 p.m. Organizers recommend that you move your car by no later than 5 p.m., as towing will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Staging will occur in a portion of the lot 50 yellow zone (the far east side of the long lot by Joseph R. Pearson Hall and Carruth O’Leary). Parking in this area will be restricted at 3 p.m. Friday. If you normally park in the yellow zone of lot 50, it is recommended that you move your vehicle, as floats and walking groups will begin to arrive by 4 p.m.
The Mississippi Street parking garage will still be available during the parade (5:45 p.m.-7 p.m.) and pep rally (7 p.m.-8 p.m.), but only the Mississippi Street entrance will be available for entrance and exit, as floats will be parked along Oread Avenue for display during the pep rally. Parking is also available in the lots next to the stadium.
