David Clemmer is the Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. In this capacity, Mr. Clemmer directs all aspects of the Athletic Bands program including the Marching Jayhawks, the men's and women's basketball bands, and the volleyball band. In addition to his responsibilities with the Athletic Bands, Mr. Clemmer also conducts the symphonic band and teaches courses in music education. Clemmer also stays busy as a Music Ensemble Instructor for the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps of Rosemont, IL, and as a marching band consultant and visual designer for DCbrass Drill Design and Consultation.
Prior to his appointment at KU, Mr. Clemmer held positions at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington and Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas. He holds the Master of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma, the Bachelor of Music degree with emphasis in Music Business from the University of Texas at Arlington, and teacher certification in both Texas and Oklahoma. Former teachers and mentors include Dr. William K. Wakefield, Brian Britt, Tom Bennett, David Bertman, Ray Lichentenwalter, and Dr. Rick Bogard. David is also a former trumpet student of Mr. John J. Haynie, trumpet professor emeritus at the University of North Texas.
Clemmer has accumulated numerous awards and honors while teaching at SHSU, the University of Texas at Arlington, Newman Smith High School and in his work with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also performed professionally with the Dallas Opera, the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Legend Brass Quintet and the Texas Wind Symphony.
Clemmer's professional affiliations include memberships with the College Band Directors National Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association and the Texas Music Educators Association. He was also instrumental in the production of an instructional DVD entitled The Cavaliers Brass: From the Concert Hall to the Football Field.
Mr. Clemmer is in high demand throughout the United States as a visual designer, clinician, and adjudicator. He maintains a full writing schedule and is active in advancing student success through music education. |
