ENERGY SAVING TIPS
Workplace Environment
Close all doors and windows in conditioned spaces. Report too hot or too cold conditions to Facilities Operations at 864-4770.
Use blinds to prvent direct sunlight from entering the space during the cooling season.
Wear clothing appropriate to the seasons.
Equipment
Turn off equipment such as printers, copiers, coffee makers, window air conditioners, space heaters and fans when not in use.
Plug electronics into a power strip that can be turned off at night to avoid phantom loads.
Computing
Screen savers do NOT save energy. Enable power management devices on your computers and monitors.
Turn your monitor off when away from your desk such as at lunchtime. If possible, turn your computer and monitor off when you leave work at the end of the day and on weekends.
Buy EPA Energy Star certified equipment.
Use duplex printing and copying.
Turn server monitors off when not in use.
Lighting
Turn off lights when leaving your office, even if for only five minutes.
Use natural light whenever possible.
Use task lighting and reduce overhead lighting.
Replace incandescent lamps with fluorescent lamps.
