Curriculum

The Environmental Studies Program consists of an interdisciplinary major offering Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of General Studies degrees for students pursuing the study of the environment. The program provides students with the tools they need to investigate environmental phenomena, including anything from soil sampling and freshwater ecology to policy-making and social science.

Students interested in a more humanities-oriented approach to the environment may pursue a B.A. or B.G.S. Degree, which has an Environment & Culture emphasis. Students who are more interested in a more scientific approach to the environment may pursue a B.S. Additionally, a minor is now available in Environmental Studies.

The objectives of the Environmental Studies Program are:

  • To provide a holistic view of the environment, one that recognizes the myriad of influences on the world in which we live.
  • To provide the technical skills and background for active participation in an environmental career.

Come visit the office in 252 Snow Hall for more information about the major!

***ATTENTION***: Currently, the Environmental Studies Program is undergoing a series of curriculum changes. The new curriculum officially takes effect for students beginning in Spring 2008. Current Environmental Studies majors have the option of pursuing either the new curriculum, or the previous curriculum implemented for Academic Year 2005-2006. In the meantime, please contact your faculty advisor or Heidi Hulse, departmental advisor, with any questions you may have regarding the changes.
