The Environmental Studies department is now over 30 years old, and with over 1,000 alumni it is becoming quite a big family. We recognize that graduates both young and old have dispersed themselves across the job market and around the world to a wide variety of positions. From a Waste Water Specialist for a mid-sized city, Policy Analysist for a Fortune 500 company, to an independent environmental lawyer, all are important and we know that KU's graduates are making critical contributions to their chosen field. We hope to keep our alumni informed of various activities both here at KU and around the world through our website. You can check out our upcoming events in the News section.

We hope that you will be just as interested in keeping in touch with us as we are with you. We hope that, by keeping in close touch with our Alumni, we can better prepare our seniors for the future. In that spirit, please take a moment of your time and fill out the following feedback form! We'd love to hear what our former seniors are up to, hear your thoughts on the Program and how the experience might be improved.

"I was in Portland, OR, last week promoting my new book, BEYOND EARTH DAY: THE ORIGINS OF AMERICAN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW, 1945-1970 (University Press of Kansas), at several conferences at Portland State University and Lewis & Clark College. I was staying with my mom, who has lived in Portland for many years. While my wife Mary and I were out walking Saturday morning in my mom's neighborhood, inner Southeast Portland near Hosford Middle School off Division Street, we saw a dog-walker approaching from the other direction clad in a blue "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" hoodie. Being good Kansans, Mary and I said hi and asked, "So where are you from in Kansas?" The walker pulled off her hood and said, "Hi, Professor Brooks, it's Nadine Appenbrink, from Environmental Studies at KU. What are you doing in Portland?" I had advised Nadine in her honors EVRN work from 2005 to 2007. She's now in the Portland State University M.A. Program in Urban Planning.

So 1800 miles away, you're never far from an EVRN alum!"
