Japanese art: Sherry Fowler, Ph.D. University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Fowler specializes in Japanese Buddhist art, with a current emphasis on Muro-ji, and teaches about art associated with other Japanese systems of belief. Later (post-Tang)

Chinese art: Marsha Haufler (Weidner), Ph.D. University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Haufler writes on later Chinese Buddhist art, Chinese women painters, and Chinese painting under Mongol rule (Yuan dynasty).

Early Chinese art: Amy McNair, Ph.D. University of Chicago. Dr. McNair's research areas include early Chinese Buddhist art, particularly the site of Longmen, and Chinese calligraphy.

History of Art faculty and graduate students work closely with faculty in other departments, particularly the departments of East Asian Languages and Cultures, History, and Religious Studies.
