First and second-year students considering a major in art history should take the two-semester survey HA 150-151 (Art History I and II).

Three degrees can be earned with majors in the history of art, the B.A. and B.G.S. in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the B.F.A. in the School of the Arts.

The B.A. and B.G.S. degrees require 30 hours in art history or 27 hours in art history and 3 hours in studio art or aesthetics or another philosophy course chosen with the adviser's approval.

The B.F.A. requires 30 hours of art history and 30 hours of studio art.

History of art majors are encouraged to attain departmental honors by graduating with an overall GPA of 3.25 and a GPA in the major of 3.5, and by successfully completing an honors thesis under the supervision of a member of the History of Art faculty.

The history of art minor requires 18 hours of art history, 12 of which must be junior/senior level courses, with a grade-point average of 2.0 in the minor.

For more information and details on major requirements, see Major Requirements.
