Looking for summer activities for students? The Kansas State Fair, September 8-17, 2006, has several special programs for youth in the works.
Field Trips: Last year more than 7,000 students participated in the "Kansas' Largest Classroom" events at the state fair. This year, your students could go too! Preparation is made easy with a wide range of online resources from the state fair organizers. Included are reading assigments for your students, developed according to age group, and logistics information for teachers to make the trip run smoothly. Don't forget, tickets for students are only $2 thanks to the sponsorship of "Kansas' Largest Classroom."
See www.kansasstatefair.com for more information, or email
info@kansasstatefair.com if you have any questions.
Spelling Bee: A spelling bee for students is going to be held at this year's fair, on September 14. Participants must have completed 3rd grade but not completed 8th grade at the time of competition. They must also be under the age of 16.
A written competition begins at 9:30 am and an oral competition for the top 10% of written competitors begins at 10:30 am. The first place winner receives a $100 savings bond and the second place winner receives a $50 savings bond. Registration is due August 25, 2006. Forms will be available at the Kansas State Fair website shortly.
