Well-known Pratt area volunteer and beloved former teacher, Barbara Shinkle, has been named Pratt USD 382 "Friend of Education" for 2005-06.

Shinkle, whose "Poohrific" years as kindergarten teacher for the Pratt district as well as her efforts in helping to create BLAST, the after school program that merged into Beyond the Bell in recent years, was chosen by a team of educators for her achievements as a volunteer in the Pratt USD 328 district. Selection as Pratt USD Friend of Education is based on volunteering above and beyond the norm to support for children in public schools. Shinkle has demonstrated her dedication to students through a variety of situations including tutoring at-risk and regular education students, chairing the student-mentoring program initiated by Rotary, and volunteering her time reading to students both in school and at Pooh Day at the Pratt Public Library. Her service spans over thirty years and has resulted in recognition and admiration from her peers and loving respect from her students.
