CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The City of Chicago’s received a multi-million dollar foundation grant to boost after-school programs.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports the City’s first lady says she’s grateful.

Maggie Daley, the Mayor’s wife, chairs After School Matters, which oversees nationally recognized programs for teenagers. She was on hand to accept an eight million dollar grant from the Wallace Foundation this week.

The Wallace Foundation is giving the City of Chicago eight million dollars over three years to strengthen what are called out-of-school-time learning. Those are programs run before or after school and on the weekends. Part of the grant will also pay for an evaluation of the programs. But, Chicago First Lady Maggie Daley—who chairs the After School Matters program—says officials are always conmsidering whether they’re doing a good job:

Wallace Foundation Communities Director Nancy Devine says Chicago’s doing a good job at a time when kids are in crisis and NEED the help:

The Wallace Foundation grant will help make it easier for families to find city programs for teens to keep them out of trouble…and help the City keep track of the participants.
