Red, White, and Green Youth Action Campaign
Red, White & Green The Red, White & Green Youth Action Campaign, a new joint project of the nonprofit and nonpartisan Civil Society Institute and Youth Service America, is giving 60 grants for young people, ages 15-25, to create community service projects that address climate change. The $500 grants will support younger Americans as they develop their voice and impact public policy on the critical issue of climate change. The ambitious three-year Red, White & Green Campaign is intended to encourage widespread youth engagement on the issue of climate change leading up to the 2008 national presidential election. Grantees will bring their project results and their public policy recommendations to Washington, DC for a three-day Youth Summit in late 2007. Deadline: September 1, 2006

Project Learning Tree Grants
Project Learning Tree GreenWorks Grants help educators implement community action and service-learning projects. Projects should address an environmental issue and involve students from pre-school to high school in hands-on community action. The GreenWorks program also encourages participants to form partnerships with groups, businesses, or organizations within their communities to help implement and sustain their projects. Some examples of past grant projects include stream clean-up, graffiti paint-over, and outdoor classrooms. Deadline is September 29, 2006.

Healthy Sprouts Award
The National Gardening Association recognizes outstanding programs via the Healthy Sprouts Awards, sponsored by Gardener's Supply Company. These awards support school garden programs that use the garden to teach about nutrition and the issue of hunger in the United States. To be eligible for the 2006 Healthy Sprouts Awards, your school or organization must plan to garden in 2007 with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18. This year we will present awards to 25 schools or organizations. Each will receive a $200 gift certificate to Gardener's Supply Company, literature and curriculum package from NGA and NGA Supporter benefits for one year. Deadline is October 15, 2006.

Ezra Jack Keats Minigrants for Schools and Libraries
The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation offers minigrants of $350 to school and public libraries for programs that encourage literacy and creativity in children. Programs relating to the work of Ezra Jack Keats are welcome, but not required. The deadline for submission of applications is September 15 of each year.

Do Something BRICK Award
Each year, the Do Something BRICK Awards honor 9 outstanding leaders under 25 who use their talents to take action that measurably strengthens their local communities in the areas of community building, health, or the environment. Each of the "18 and under" winners is awarded a $5,000 higher education scholarship and a $5,000 community grant (to be directed by the award winner to the not-for-profit organization of his or her choice). Deadline is October 25, 2006.

Lowe's Outdoor Classroom Grant Program
Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine have partnered to create an outdoor classroom grant program to provide schools with additional resources to improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. All K-12 public schools in the United States are welcome to apply.Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded to at least one hundred K-12 public schools for use in establishing a new outdoor classroom or enhancing an existing one. The deadline is August 31 for mid-September notification.

Target Company Grants for Arts, Violence Prevention, or Literacy
Arts grants are given to programs that bring the arts to schools or make it affordable for families to participate in cultural experiences, such as school touring programs, field trips to the theater or symphony, or artist residencies and workshops in schools. Reading grants are awarded to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations, supporting programs such as weekend book clubs, after-school reading programs and events encouraging family reading time. Awards may be up to $3000. Rolling deadline.
