The Kansas Blackboard Users Group (KBUG) Exemplary
Online Course Recognition competition is designed to encourage
faculty from across the state to develop quality web-enhanced
and web-based classes. Winning course designs could be used
for such scholarly activities as tenure and promotion; conference
presentations; research; and publication. There will be separate
judging and categories for K-12 and post-secondary submissions.
Winners from both groups
are judged based on a variety of criteria. To judge the web-based
courses, we will use a rubric
developed at California State University, Chico. Web-based
courses are delivered primarily online. (A minimum of 67%
student-faculty interaction and didactic presentation delivered
via the web.)
To judge the web-enhanced courses,
we will use criteria developed between instructional designers
at the University of Kansas; Wichita State University; Fort
Hays State University, and ESSDACK . Web-enhanced courses
are considered traditional courses with web-enhancement.
Faculty using Blackboard and other
Course Management Systems are encouraged to submit their course
to the competition. Winners will be awarded a complementary
admission to the Kansas Teaching and Learning
Symposium, along with complimentary vendor-sponsored gifts.
Winners will also be asked to present the winning course design
at the Kansas Teaching and Learning Symposium, held in Wichita,
KS in June.
