About This Site

Students in the University of Kansas' William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications rebuilt the William Allen White website in Fall 2002. As a project for the online journalism course, students redesigned the site's look, added content and created several new additions to the site. One addition to the site is a section of profiles of winners of the William Allen White Medal. Each student wrote a short biography of an award winner.

With help from the White family and The Emporia Gazette, journalism students also gathered letters and columns written by White and took photos and video of his home in Emporia. An interview with Christopher White Walker, the fourth generation of White's family to publish the Gazette, reflects the commitment to quality journalism passed along by William Allen White. That commitment is reflected not only by members of White's family and the foundation created in his honor, but the journalism students who study at the school which bears his name.
