After downloading SPSS 16.0, double-click on the SPSS16.exe icon on the Desktop (or the folder you downloaded the file to) to extract the files to a folder. The default folder is C:\temp\spss.
Click on the Unzip button to start extracting the file into the folder specified. When the process is done, the following screen will appear:
Click OK to return to the WinZip screen. Click the Close button to exit WinZip.
To install SPSS, click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the Desktop. Click Run. In the resulting screen, type c:\temp\spss (if you downloaded SPSS from KU) and click OK to open the folder.
Find the Setup.exe file and double-click it to start the installation.
The following screen will appear. Continue with the installation using the instructions for installing from CD.
If installing from a CD, this is the first screen that you will see after the disc is inserted.
Click on Install SPSS 16.0 to install the SPSS Base, Advanced Models, and Regression Models software.
Select Site license (My organization purchased the product and my administrator gave me a code.) and then click the Next button to continue.
At the next screen, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next to continue.
The ReadMe information will appear. Please read this carefully, this screen contains useful information about installation, any known problems, new features, and discontinued features. When you've read the text, click Next to continue.
At the next screen, type your name, organization and the serial number sent to you by email after you downloaded SPSS. If you do not have the serial number and activation code, go to the SPSS download site and click on the appropriate link in the Activation Codes Only section. Click Next after entering your information.
Click Next to install SPSS in the default folder, or Change to install in a different folder.
Click Install to begin the installation.
When the installation is complete, click OK to start the license authorization process.
If you do not have the activation code you need, go to the SPSS download site and click on the appropriate link in the Activation Codes Only section.
Select License my product now and click Next.
Read the Overview of Licensing and click Next.
Enter your activation code and click Next.
On the Select Authorization Method screen, select Internet and click Next.
When you see the status message saying that your authorization was successful, click Next.
On the Licensing Completed screen, click Finish.
After you click Finish, SPSS takes you to a website that seems to imply that you need to create a SPSS.com account. You are not required to do this in order to use the software. If you don't want to create an account, simply close the web browser window.
Next, click on Installation Instructions to see which of the optional SPSS components you may wish to install. The Installation Options document summarizes what each component does and whether it depends on any other components.
If you aren't sure whether you need to install more than just SPSS 16.0, wait until the need arises. You will be able to run the C:\temp\spss\setup.exe program at any time to return to this installation menu.
If you do want to install other items from the menu, click on each additional component and follow the instructions to install.
