Arrival Information

Summer 2008 Check-in Process
You must complete all three of the check-in processes below before you will be allowed to enroll. All steps must be completed to enroll on Monday, June 2. Summer classes begin June 3. If you do not follow this schedule you may have to enroll late incurring a late enrollment fee.

1. Applied English Center (AEC)
All international students must have their English proficiency evaluated at AEC in Room 204, Lippincott Hall. Go as soon as possible to sign up to take the English proficiency test or to receive a waiver for the exam. If testing is required, you must register at the AEC office by 3:00 p.m, the business day prior to a test date. You need to be in the U.S. for 24 hours before you can take the AEC test.

The Applied English Center is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday.

Students will also sign up for a Watkins Health Center appointment time at the AEC.

2. International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS)
There are several steps to complete with ISSS-you must arrive on time for each session.
  • Attend the Computer Info Data Update
    Friday, May 30. Pre-registration required. After arriving in Lawrence, please go to ISSS, Room 2 Strong Hall, before 12 noon May 30, to sign up for a session time. Bring your passport, local address information, and emergency contact information to the session. Allow about one hour to complete this step.
  • Staying Legal presentation & Document Check
    Monday, June 2, 8:30 a.m. in Room 330 Strong Hall (Brewster Auditorium). Bring your immigration documents-passport, visa, I-94 card, I-20 (F-1 students), DS-2019 (J-1 students), or any other documents that verify your immigration status. If you are dependent status(H-4, L-2, J-2,etc.) also bring evidence of status for the person from whom your status is derived. Your documents will be copied and reviewed. F-1 and J-1 students will pay a $35 check-in fee (cash or check only), and hear a presentation on maintaining legal immigration status. Allow at least two hours to complete this step.

If you miss the above ISSS check-in sessions, please go to ISSS office or call 864-3617 for the next available session.

3. Watkins Health Center Check-In
Student Health Center Tuberculosis screening, immunizations and health record review will be done by appointment on Sunday, June 1 between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Watkins Health Center. New international students can schedule an appointment with Watkins when they check in at the Applied English Center (AEC) or by calling 785-864-9507.

Bring your health history form and immunization form with you to the appointment. Prices for immunizations are subject to change.
