Spring 2010 Check-in Process

Students not attending orientation must complete all three of the check-in processes described below (in any order) before enrollment is allowed. (You at KU orientation participants will complete their check-in as scheduled during orientation week.). Note: Late enrollment fees will be assessed on/after Jan 14th.

Check-in with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)

You MUST SIGN UP (at ISSS upon arriving on campus) & attend one ISSS check-in session::

Students arriving on/after January 14th must report directly to ISSS office, Room 2 Strong Hall to sign-up for one late check in session. Note: Late enrollment fees will be assessed on/after Jan 14th.

  • There is a mandatory $35 check-in fee (for F-1/J-1 students only) that must be paid at the time of check-in. Cash, check or traveler's check only; ISSS does not accept credit cards.
  • ISSS staff will present important information on staying legal while studying in the U.S. (for F-1/J-1 students only); you will complete an information form, and update your contact information in the KU data system.
  • Bring your immigration documents-passport, visa, I-94 (small card issued at the port of entry), I-20, DS-2019, and/or any other immigration documents that verify your status (i.e. H-1b Approval Notice, H-4 documents). You should also bring with you local address and emergency contact information.
  • Plan for about 3 hours to complete this entire process.

Check-in with the Applied English Center (AEC)

  • All international students must have their English proficiency evaluated at the AEC in Lippincott Hall. Go to the AEC upon arrival to sign up to take the English proficiency test or to receive a waiver for the exam. If testing is required, you must register by 3:00 p.m. the business day prior to a test date. You need to be in the U.S. for 24 hours before you can take the AEC test.
  • If you have them, take your original TOEFL or IELTS scores and/or your original diploma earned in residence from either an accredited U.S. institution of higher education or an institution whose medium of instruction is English.
  • Students should bring their passport or other picture ID with them when they go to the AEC.
  • The AEC office (Lippincott Hall, Room 204) is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Allow four and a half hours to complete the test.

Check-in with Watkins Memorial Health Center

  • Student Health Services tuberculosis (TB) screening, immunizations, and health record review will be done by appointment only. New international students can schedule their appointment either during the ISSS check-in or by calling Watkins Health Center upon arrival.
  • Bring your completed "Health History Form" and your "Immunization and Screening Record" to your appointment. These forms are available online if you do not have them:

    Note: Failure to complete the TB screening will result in disenrollment and subsequent notification to ISSS that you are no longer enrolled.
