Coming to KU

Pre-Arrival Information

Arrival Date

You must report to the International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSS) within 15 days after the report date shown on your I-20 or DS-2019 to complete the mandatory check-in processes (see below).   Upon completing all the mandatory check-ins, you will be allowed to enroll in KU courses. ISSS must report arrival and enrollment of international students to the federal government.

Each type of immigration status (F-1, J-1, etc.) has its own set of unique rules and regulations. It is the responsibility of all international students to know and understand their legal obligations for their own status. The consequences of violating status can be very severe.  Although many categories do allow individuals to enroll on a part time basis, some categories such as F-2 (dependent), B-1 and B-2 (tourist) are usually restricted from taking any courses. If you have any questions about your status and staying legal, you should contact an advisor in the ISSS Office.
