Coming to KU
Academic Advising
The University Advising Center (UAC), located 126 Strong Hall, serves all undecided freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and all pre-professional students. The web site for UAC is http://www.advising.ku.edu. While many of the advisors specialize in particular areas, they are all trained to answer questions regarding any major, professional school or resource at KU. Some things to keep in mind:
Students who were admitted for only English language training will be advised by the Applied English Center (AEC). For other students, the results of their AEC language proficiency exam will determine eligibility to enroll in regular KU classes. You may be advised by the AEC, by your academic department, or by FSAC depending on the results. You will receive information about advising and enrollment when you get your English proficiency results.
Students who are attending KU through an exchange program with the Office of Study Abroad will be advised by that office. During the advising and enrollment information session in orientation (spring and fall only), study abroad students will schedule an appointment with the Exchange Student Specialist in the Office of Study Abroad, Room 108 Lippincott.
Graduate students should consult with their academic department regarding course enrollment and advising. A complete list of graduate academic programs and their contact information can be found here. All new and current graduate students are encouraged to attend Graduate Orientation and learn more about KU as an institution. Please contact the Graduate School office at 785.864.6161 or gradschool@ku.edu for more information.
Before you enroll, talk with an academic advisor about your current classification.
